Eneko Island

Today we took a boat trip to Eneko island. One of the hotel's here owns land on an outer island in the Majuro Atoll. The boat trip is about 20 minutes to get there. The island has a family living on it that are caretakers and I believe one other family that lives on the island. The hotel set up a small picnic area with tables, volleyball court, picnic area and bathrooms. You can even stay over night if you like but we decided to just do a day trip at this point.

We spent they say laying around, eating pb&j sandwiches and swimming. We walked the beach for shells on the lagoon side and on the pacific ocean side whent out at low tide and played with crabs. The kids came home and were exhausted. We ran downstairs and rented the Lego movie and made some mac n cheese and hot dogs in our room for dinner. It was a very fun day and I think we are going to do it again next week before the boys leave.

Here is the gang on the way to the island- there is one other family here adopting a little boy born about 10 days before Hazel. The have an almost 4 year old daughter and we hang with them quite a bit. They also went to the island today.

The kids loved the canoe and took turns paddling.

Hazel and Johnson. You can see how tiny she is- he is 10 days older. You can also see how light her skin is- all the Marshallese people are telling us she is not all Marshallese, many think she is part Chinsese or caucasion... we hope to do a little digging on that this week :)

We only adopted 1 child, however the other families daughter thinks she is part of our family!

Playing in the warm south pacific water. We can not get over how warm it is. Gretta met a Marshallese boy in a boat and got to pet the fish he caught too!

Do these kids look tired on the way home from Eneko? 6 hours exploring and island sure wears you out.

What kind of toilet seats do they have on a deserted island in the south pacific? Bemis from Sheboygan Falls of course!

Since it is Saturday night here the band is starting to play outside our room. Music til 1am...which can be annoying it is hard to be mad when you are trying to figure out what songs they are singing in Marshallese. It is odd- music here tends to about 30 years behind. When I go shopping or am in taxi's I hear nothing but Chicago, Elton John, Survivor, Flashdance Soundtrack and Abba. It is kinda funny...I was in a handcraft store where there were little old ladies on the floor weaving beautiful baskets out of palm leaves listing to Abba. It just makes me giggle.
